PROFIsafe is an open-standard, industrial ethernet communications protocol. PROFIsafe adds an additional layer to PROFInet to allow functional safety communications over a single ethernet cable. PROFIsafe for e-Series eliminates the need for a bridging PLC or additional I/O modules, creating a cost savings, and simplification of wiring and programming across the entire workcell. SAFETY ALERTPROFI safe must be used with software version 5.18.1 or higher. This version addresses an issue with PROFIsafe when used with a Universal Robot (UR) that has a 3-Position Enabling device Teach Pendant (3PE TP). If you are using PROFIsafe, especially in conjunction with the 3PE Teach Pendant, please ensure all robots are updated to software version 5.18.1 or higher. Currently all e-Series robots ship with software 5.19 or higher.
PROFIsafe communications are fully integrated into Universal Robots software. Setup is simple and fast – connect an ethernet cable from the robot control box to a safety PLC or other PROFIsafe controller and set the addresses in the PolyScope Installation menu. Remaining configuration is done directly in your PLC software.
